You have 1 new message!
The number one feature of the Internet (well ahead of surfing the Web) is still sending and receiving e-mail. According to a study by International Data Corp, the average number of e-mails sent each day will be around 35 billion in 2005. Even today, when you connect to the Internet, one of the first things you do is create an e-mail account, send your first messages and wait for the replies. No problem… at first! Very quickly, from having a couple of messages a week, the number of e-mails you receive rises into the dozens (maybe even 30, 50 messages a day if you are on a mailing list).
If your single e-mail account isn't enough, you end up multiplying your
e-mail addresses: a professional address, a second personal one, another for
mailing lists. And that's when managing your mail becomes a real balancing
act. Dealing with passwords, connecting, disconnecting, reconnecting. The
danger is there that you will miss a very important message and no longer be
able to keep the whole affair under control.
Fortunately, there are agents which will keep watch for you. Whether your
e-mail accounts are web-based or use the POP3 protocol, agents can monitor
your electronic letter-box and alert you to the arrival of new messages. You
can customize these agents and specify the information you want them to give
you (number of messages, name of sender etc). Some of them will even manage
your different log-ins and passwords, saving you the hassle and the stress.
Because what could be more stressful than not receiving the AgentLand
newsletter on time? ;-)
