What gave you the idea of developing a bot?
I found it amusing to play with the illusion of computer intelligence, as
I was learning Lingo/Director, and it struck me as a cool project.
Is creating bots a passion for you? A hobby?
It's a thing I tinker around with sometimes, especially when I have
deadlines to meet.
When did you start creating bots? Why?
I started at college - it was a fun exercise in managing multiple arrays
of strings.
What language is your bot programmed in?
It is programmed in Lingo, and it exists as a Shockwave-Director 'applet'
- this gives really easy access to various multimedia elements in the
responses.
How much time do you spend working on your bot per week/month/year?
A few weeks per year.
In your opinion, what are the best qualities of your bot?
Well it's intelligent, worldly-wise, open-minded...
What is your ultimate goal for your bot?
Global domination?
How do you see chatterbots being used in the future?
They will probably be used more and more as voice interfaces are
developed - evolving into expert systems which channel your interaction with
the complex stuff underneath. Like Star Trek - "Computer! ..."
Can chatterbots replace humans?
Chatterbots can only replace a certain type of human - for example they
could possibly replace a person who talks and talks but never really says
anything, never listens, and never gives you any real answers. They will
never have emotions, for example - anyone who says they will doesn't
understand what emotions are.
What is your favorite bot memory?
I once read a really moving transcript of someone falling in love with my
bot online... To say any more would infringe their privacy.
What was your worst bot moment?
Many moments - when it was being stupid. As they tend to be...
