What gave you the idea of developing a bot?
|
I've always been fascinated how easily people are fooled by a simple algorithm as well as how difficult it really is to create the perfect illusion. Yu is an attempt to see just how good of an illusion I can create. A challenge as good as any.

Is creating bots a passion for you? A hobby?
|
It's a hobby.

When did you start creating bots? Why?
|
I started making bots in the 80's, playing around with the concept of
expert systems. Later on I made some chattingdevices, parrot-scripts for DelusionsMUCK.com,
an online community of which I used to be one of the administrators.

What language is your bot programmed in?
|
VisualBASIC back-end and ASP front-end, MS SQL2000 as database.

How much time do you spend working on your bot per week/month/year?
|

In your opinion, what are the best qualities of your bot?
|
Its enigmatic aura. =)

What is your ultimate goal for your bot?
|
To show me if my concept is good enough to create a good illusion.
I also would like to see him gain a bit better results in each Chatterbox
Challenge to come for the next years.

How do you see chatterbots being used in the future?
|
As processor speed and storage becomes less of a problem I think
chatterbots will be increasingly used for controlling various devices. Speech
recognizition isn't enough to control a gadget, the gadget must be able to interact, talk
back to clarify and to serve you better.

Can chatterbots replace humans?
|
In many situations, yes.

What is your favorite bot memory?
|
A parrot I made named Winston who attended an online wedding on
DelusionsMUCK.com.
I had given one of the guests the parrot a while back. It was very amusing
and amazing even to hear it interact so perfectly with the crowd, even screaming out "NOoo!"
at the right moment when the wedding couple was taking their vows.

What was your worst bot moment?
|
When I first met Julia on DruidMUCK and didn't understand she was a bot
until MUCH later. *ducks*
