What gave you the idea of developing a bot?
|
After playing with Eliza, I wanted to make an animated bot, a character who
looked at you, listened to you, and talked back.

Is creating bots a passion for you? A hobby?
|
It's more a hobby than anything else, I will spend days at a time working on
the code, then leave it alone.

When did you start creating bots? Why?
|
I got started about two years ago.
I am very interested in interactive animation, making a character seem to
come to life.

What language is your bot programmed in?
|
Javascript regular expressions and flash. These are the only two computer languages I know.

How much time do you spend working on your bot per week/month/year?
|
I would imagine I've put a month in on Whinsey by now, started at the end of
2000, once my flash 5 skills were up to it.

In your opinion, what are the best qualities of your bot?
|
I think she's funny, and fairly smart, and physically responds to the
questions asked. Also she's a horse.

What is your ultimate goal for your bot?
|
I wish someone would help me so I could see what other people are saying to
her. This would help me with her programming. But I've never learned
server side languages.

How do you see chatterbots being used in the future?
|
I would imagine they will be used in advertising and tech support quite a bit. The more narrow
their domain, the more effective and intelligent they can appear to be,
because you can more readily imagine all the possibilities.

Can chatterbots replace humans?
|
No!
|

What is your favorite bot memory?
|
There was a brief period when I was winning the Chatterbot contest and that
was very amazing to me.

What was your worst bot moment?
|
Well the worst moment is always right after you've gotten some publicity for
the bot and you go to check on her and discover some javascript error is
making her non-functional!
